First of all, unsigned long can overflow u32 value on 64-bit machine.
Second, simple_strtoul() doesn't check for overflow in the input.
Convert simple_strtoul() to kstrtou32() to eliminate above issues.

asus-nb-wmi does not add any extra functionality on these Asus
Transformer books. They have detachable keyboards, so the hotkeys are
send through a HID device (and handled by the hid-asus driver) and also
the rfkill functionality is not used on these devices.
Besides not adding any extra functionality, initializing the WMI interface
on these devices actually has a negative side-effect. For some reason
the \_SB.ATKD.INIT() function which asus_wmi_platform_init() calls drives
GPO2 (INT33FC:02) pin 8, which is connected to the front facing webcam LED,
high and there is no (WMI or other) interface to drive this low again
causing the LED to be permanently on, even during suspend.
This commit adds a blacklist of DMI system_ids on which not to load the
asus-nb-wmi and adds these Transformer books to this list. This fixes
the webcam LED being permanently on under Linux.

The driver gets driver_data from memory that is marked as const (which
is probably put to read-only memory) and it then modifies it. This
likely causes some sort of fault to happen.
Fix this by taking a copy of the structure.

Currently the driver has disabled interrupt support for Tangier but
actually interrupt works just fine if the command is not written twice
in a row. Also we need to ack the interrupt in the handler.

Currently the kfree of output.pointer can be potentially freeing
an uninitalized pointer in the case where out_data is NULL. Fix this
by reworking the case where out_data is not-null to perform the
ACPI status check and also the kfree of outpoint.pointer in one block
and hence ensuring the pointer is only freed when it has been used.
Also replace the if (ptr != NULL) idiom with just if (ptr).

In the function wmi_dev_match() the variable id is dereferenced without
first performing a NULL check. The variable can for example be NULL if
a WMI driver is registered without specifying the id_table field in
struct wmi_driver.
Add a NULL check and return that the driver can't handle the device if
the variable is NULL.

Some of ASUS laptops like UX431FL keyboard backlight cannot be set to
brightness 0. According to ASUS' information, the brightness should be
0x80 ~ 0x83. This patch fixes it by following the logic.

At least on the HP Envy x360 15-cp0xxx model the WMI interface
for HPWMI_FEATURE2_QUERY requires an outsize of at least 128 bytes,
otherwise it fails with an error code 5 (HPWMI_RET_INVALID_PARAMETERS):

We do not care about the contents of the buffer, we just want to know
if the HPWMI_FEATURE2_QUERY command is supported.
This commits bumps the buffer size, fixing the error.

The AML code implementing the WMI methods creates a variable length
field to hold the input data we pass like this:
CreateDWordField (Arg1, 0x0C, DSZI)

CreateField (Arg1, 0x80, (Local5 * 0x08), DAIN)
If we pass 0 as bios_args.datasize argument then (Local5 * 0x08)
is 0 which results in these errors:

read commands where extra input is needed to specify exactly what to read.
So for HPWMI_WIRELESS2_QUERY we can safely pass the size of the expected
output as insize to hp_wmi_perform_query(), as we are already doing for all
other HPWMI_READ commands we send. Doing so fixes these errors.

The HP WMI calls may take up to 128 bytes of data as input, and
the AML methods implementing the WMI calls, declare a couple of fields for
accessing input in different sizes, specifycally the HWMC method contains:
CreateField (Arg1, 0x80, 0x0400, D128)
Even though we do not use any of the WMI command-types which need a buffer
of this size, the APCI interpreter still tries to create it as it is
declared in generoc code at the top of the HWMC method which runs before
the code looks at which command-type is requested.
This results in many of these errors on many different HP laptop models:

Commit 78f3ac76d9e5 ("platform/x86: asus-wmi: Tell the EC the OS will
handle the display off hotkey") causes the backlight to be permanently off
on various EeePC laptop models using the eeepc-wmi driver (Asus EeePC
1015BX, Asus EeePC 1025C).
The asus_wmi_set_devstate(ASUS_WMI_DEVID_BACKLIGHT, 2, NULL) call added
by that commit is made conditional in this commit and only enabled in
the quirk_entry structs in the asus-nb-wmi driver fixing the broken
display / backlight on various EeePC laptop models.

critclk_systems DMI table

There are several Beckhoff Automation industrial PC boards which use
pmc_plt_clk* clocks for ethernet controllers. This adds affected boards

The Lex 3I380D industrial PC has 4 ethernet controllers on board
which need pmc_plt_clk0 - 3 to function, add it to the critclk_systems
DMI table, so that drivers/clk/x86/clk-pmc-atom.c will mark the clocks
as CLK_CRITICAL and they will not get turned off.

As new transfer mechanisms are added to the EC codebase, they may
not support v2 of the EC protocol.
If the v3 initial handshake transfer fails, the kernel will try
and call cmd_xfer as a fallback. If v2 is not supported, cmd_xfer
will be NULL, and the code will end up causing a kernel panic.
Add a check for NULL before calling the transfer function, along
with a helpful comment explaining how one might end up in this
situation.

It seems that the default case should return AE_CTRL_TERMINATE, instead
of falling through to case ACPI_RESOURCE_TYPE_END_TAG and returning AE_OK;
otherwise the line of code at the end of the function is unreachable and
makes no sense:

Since commit 648e921888ad ("clk: x86: Stop marking clocks as
CLK_IS_CRITICAL"), the pmc_plt_clocks of the Bay Trail SoC are
unconditionally gated off. Unfortunately this will break systems where these
clocks are used for external purposes beyond the kernel's knowledge. Fix it
by implementing a system specific quirk to mark the necessary pmc_plt_clks as
critical.

A previous commit "platform/x86: intel_pmc_core: Make the driver PCH
family agnostic <c977b98bbef5898ed3d30b08ea67622e9e82082a>" provided
better abstraction to this driver but has some fundamental issues.
e.g. the following condition
for (index = 0; index < pmcdev->map->ppfear_buckets &&
index < PPFEAR_MAX_NUM_ENTRIES; index++, iter++)
is wrong because for CNL, PPFEAR_MAX_NUM_ENTRIES is hardcoded as 5 which
is _wrong_ and even though ppfear_buckets is 8, the loop fails to read
all eight registers needed for CNL PCH i.e. PPFEAR0 and PPFEAR1. This
patch refactors the pfear show logic to correctly read PCH IP power
gating status for Cannonlake and beyond.

EC_MKBP_EVENT_SENSOR_FIFO events can be triggered for a variety of
reasons, and there are very few cases in which they should be treated as
wakeup interrupts (particularly, when a certain
MOTIONSENSE_MODULE_FLAG_* is set, but this is not even supported in the
mainline cros_ec_sensor driver yet). Most of the time, they are benign
sensor readings. In any case, the top-level cros_ec device doesn't know
enough to determine that they should wake the system, and so it should
not report the event. This would be the job of the cros_ec_sensors
driver to parse.
This patch adds checks to cros_ec_get_next_event() such that it doesn't
signal 'wakeup' for events of type EC_MKBP_EVENT_SENSOR_FIFO.
This patch is particularly relevant on devices like Scarlet (Rockchip
RK3399 tablet, known as Acer Chromebook Tab 10), where the EC firmware
reports sensor events much more frequently. This was causing
/sys/power/wakeup_count to increase very frequently, often needlessly
interrupting our ability to suspend the system.

According to Asus firmware engineers, the meaning of these codes is only
to notify the OS that the screen brightness has been turned on/off by
the EC. This does not match the meaning of KEY_DISPLAYTOGGLE /
KEY_DISPLAY_OFF, where userspace is expected to change the display
brightness.

When the OS registers to handle events from the display off hotkey the
EC will send a notification with 0x35 for every key press, independent
of the backlight state.
The behavior of this key on Windows, with the ATKACPI driver from Asus
installed, is turning off the backlight of all connected displays with a
fading effect, and any cursor input or key press turning the backlight
back on. The key press or cursor input that wakes up the display is also
passed through to the application under the cursor or under focus.
The key that matches this behavior the closest is KEY_SCREENLOCK.

In the past, Asus firmwares would change the panel backlight directly
through the EC when the display off hotkey (Fn+F7) was pressed, and
only notify the OS of such change, with 0x33 when the LCD was ON and
0x34 when the LCD was OFF. These are currently mapped to
KEY_DISPLAYTOGGLE and KEY_DISPLAY_OFF, respectively.
Most recently the EC on Asus most machines lost ability to toggle the
LCD backlight directly, but unless the OS informs the firmware it is
going to handle the display toggle hotkey events, the firmware still
tries change the brightness through the EC, to no effect. The end result
is a long list (at Endless we counted 11) of Asus laptop models where
the display toggle hotkey does not perform any action. Our firmware
engineers contacts at Asus were surprised that there were still machines
out there with the old behavior.
Calling WMNB(ASUS_WMI_DEVID_BACKLIGHT==0x00050011, 2) on the _WDG device
tells the firmware that it should let the OS handle the display toggle
event, in which case it will simply notify the OS of a key press with
0x35, as shown by the DSDT excerpts bellow.

On some Goldmont based systems such as ASRock J3455M the BIOS may not
enable the IPC1 device that provides access to the PMC and PUNIT. In
such scenarios, the IOSS and PSS resources from the platform device can
not be obtained and result in a invalid telemetry_plt_config which is an
internal data structure that holds platform config and is maintained by
the telemetry platform driver.
This is also applicable to the platforms where the BIOS supports IPC1
device under debug configurations but IPC1 is disabled by user or the
policy.
This change allows user to know the reason for not seeing entries under
/sys/kernel/debug/telemetry/* when there is no apparent failure at boot.

When the module is removed the led workqueue is destroyed in the remove
callback, before the led device is unregistered from the led subsystem.
This leads to a NULL pointer derefence when the led device is
unregistered automatically later as part of the module removal cleanup.

This patch prevents the thinkpad_acpi driver from warning about 2 event
codes returned for keyboard palm-detection. No behavioral changes,
other than suppressing the warning in the kernel log. The events are
still forwarded via acpi-netlink channels.
We could, optionally, decide to forward the event through a
input-switch on the tpacpi input device. However, so far no suitable
input-code exists, and no similar drivers report such events. Hence,
leave it an acpi event for now.
Note that the event-codes are named based on empirical studies. On the
ThinkPad X1 5th Gen the sensor can be found underneath the arrow key.

On some Dell XPS models WMI events of type 0x0000 reporting a keycode of
0xe00c get reported when the brightness of the LCD panel changes.
This leads to us reporting false-positive kbd_led change events to
userspace which in turn leads to the kbd backlight OSD showing when it
should not.
We already read the current keyboard backlight brightness value when
reporting events because the led_classdev_notify_brightness_hw_changed
API requires this. Compare this value to the last known value and filter
out duplicate events, fixing this.
Note the fixed issue is esp. a problem on XPS models with an ambient light
sensor and automatic brightness adjustments turned on, this causes the kbd
backlight OSD to show all the time there.

pkt_xfer should be used for protocol v3, and cmd_xfer otherwise. We had
one instance of these functions correct, but not the second, fall-back
case. We use the fall-back only when the first command returns an
IN_PROGRESS status, which is only used on some EC firmwares where we
don't want to constantly poll the bus, but instead back off and
sleep/retry for a little while.

This machine reports number of keyboard backlight led levels, instead of
value of the last led level index. Therefore max_brightness properly needs
to be subtracted by 1 to match led max_brightness API.

Commit 4eebd5a4e726 ("apple-gmux: lock iGP IO to protect from vgaarb
changes") amended this driver's ->probe hook to lock decoding of normal
(non-legacy) I/O space accesses to the integrated GPU on dual-GPU
MacBook Pros. The lock stays in place until the driver is unbound.
The change was made to work around an issue with the out-of-tree nvidia
graphics driver (available at http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html).
It contains the following sequence in nvidia/nv.c:

On the MacBookPro10,1, this code apparently breaks backlight control
(which is handled by apple-gmux via an I/O region starting at 0x700),
as reported by Petri Hodju:

I tried to replicate Petri's observations on my MacBook9,1, which uses
the same Intel Ivy Bridge + Nvidia GeForce GT 650M architecture, to no
avail. On my machine apple-gmux' I/O region remains accessible even
with the nvidia driver loaded and commit 4eebd5a4e726 reverted.
Petri reported that apple-gmux becomes accessible again after a
suspend/resume cycle because the BIOS changed the VGA routing on the
root port to the Nvidia GPU. Perhaps this is a BIOS issue after all
that can be fixed with an update?
In any case, the change made by commit 4eebd5a4e726 has turned out to
cause two new issues:
* Wilfried Klaebe reports a deadlock when launching Xorg because it
opens /dev/vga_arbiter and calls vga_get(), but apple-gmux is holding
a lock on I/O space indefinitely. It looks like apple-gmux' current
behavior is an abuse of the vgaarb API as locks are not meant to be
held for longer periods:

* On dual GPU MacBook Pros introduced since 2013, the integrated GPU is
powergated on boot und thus becomes invisible to Linux unless a custom
EFI protocol is used to leave it powered on. (A patch exists but is
not in mainline yet due to several negative side effects.) On these
machines, locking I/O to the integrated GPU (as done by 4eebd5a4e726)
fails and backlight control is therefore broken:

So let's revert commit 4eebd5a4e726 please. Users experiencing the
issue with the proprietary nvidia driver can comment out the above-
quoted problematic code as a workaround (or try updating the BIOS).
