Now that the watchdog device uses its Clock input rather than being passed the value of system_clock_scale at creation time, we can remove the hack where we reset the STELLARIS_SYS at board creation time to force it to set system_clock_scale. Instead it will be reset at the usual point in startup and will inform the watchdog of the clock frequency at that point. 2021-01-29hw/arm/stellaris: Create Clock input for watchdogPeter Maydell
Create and connect the Clock input for the watchdog device on the Stellaris boards. Because the Stellaris boards model the ability to change the clock rate by programming PLL registers, we have to create an output Clock on the ssys_state device and wire it up to the watchdog. Note that the old comment on ssys_calculate_system_clock() got the units wrong -- system_clock_scale is in nanoseconds, not milliseconds. Improve the commentary to clarify how we are calculating the period. 2021-01-29hw/arm/stellaris: Convert SSYS to QOM devicePeter Maydell
Convert the SSYS code in the Stellaris boards (which encapsulates the system registers) to a proper QOM device. This will provide us with somewhere to put the output Clock whose frequency depends on the setting of the PLL configuration registers. This is a migration compatibility break for lm3s811evb, lm3s6965evb. We use 3-phase reset here because the Clock will need to propagate its value in the hold phase. For the moment we reset the device during the board creation so that the system_clock_scale global gets set; this will be removed in a subsequent commit. The MSF2 SoC model and the Stellaris board code both wire SYSRESETREQ up to a function that just invokes qemu_system_reset_request(SHUTDOWN_CAUSE_GUEST_RESET); This is now the default action that the NVIC does if the line is not connected, so we can delete the handling code. 2020-07-16hw/i2c: Rename i2c_create_slave() as i2c_slave_create_simple()Philippe Mathieu-Daudé
We use "create_simple" names for functions that allocate, initialize, configure and realize device objects: pci_create_simple(), isa_create_simple(), usb_create_simple(). 2019-08-16sysemu: Split sysemu/runstate.h off sysemu/sysemu.hMarkus Armbruster
sysemu/sysemu.h is a rather unfocused dumping ground for stuff related to the system-emulator. Evidence: * It's included widely: in my "build everything" tree, changing sysemu/sysemu.h still triggers a recompile of some 1100 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h, down from 5400 due to the previous two commits). * It pulls in more than a dozen additional headers. Split stuff related to run state management into its own header sysemu/runstate.h. Touching sysemu/sysemu.h now recompiles some 850 objects. qemu/uuid.h also drops from 1100 to 850, and qapi/qapi-types-run-state.h from 4400 to 4200. Touching new sysemu/runstate.h recompiles some 500 objects. Since I'm touching MAINTAINERS to add sysemu/runstate.h anyway, also add qemu/main-loop.h. Touching it now recompiles only some 1600 objects. The header file hw/arm/arm.h now includes only declarations relating to hw/arm/boot.c functionality. Rename it accordingly, and adjust its header comment. The bulk of this commit was created via perl -pi -e 's|hw/arm/arm.h|hw/arm/boot.h|' hw/arm/*.c include/hw/arm/*.h In a few cases we can just delete the #include: hw/arm/msf2-soc.c, include/hw/arm/aspeed_soc.h and include/hw/arm/bcm2836.h did not require it. Most files that have TABs only contain a handful of them. Change them to spaces so that we don't confuse people. disas, standard-headers, linux-headers and libdecnumber are imported from other projects and probably should be exempted from the check. Outside those, after this patch the following files still contain both 8-space and TAB sequences at the beginning of the line. 2018-08-16hw/arm: make bitbanded IO optional on ARMv7-MStefan Hajnoczi
Some ARM CPUs have bitbanded IO, a memory region that allows convenient bit access via 32-bit memory loads/stores. This eliminates the need for read-modify-update instruction sequences. This patch makes this optional feature an ARMv7MState qdev property, allowing boards to choose whether they want bitbanding or not. Status of boards: * iotkit (Cortex M33), no bitband * mps2 (Cortex M3), bitband * msf2 (Cortex M3), bitband * stellaris (Cortex M3), bitband * stm32f205 (Cortex M3), bitband As a side-effect of this patch, Peter Maydell noted that the Ethernet controller on mps2 board is now accessible. Previously they were hidden by the bitband region (which does not exist on the real board). Set the MachineClass flag ignore_memory_transaction_failures for almost all ARM boards. This means they retain the legacy behaviour that accesses to unimplemented addresses will RAZ/WI rather than aborting, when a subsequent commit adds support for external aborts. The exceptions are: * virt -- we know that guests won't try to prod devices that we don't describe in the device tree or ACPI tables * mps2 -- this board was written to use unimplemented-device for all the ranges with devices we don't yet handle New boards should not set the flag, but instead be written like the mps2. Time to wire up all the call sites that request a shutdown or reset to use the enum added in the previous patch. It would have been less churn to keep the common case with no arguments as meaning guest-triggered, and only modified the host-triggered code paths, via a wrapper function, but then we'd still have to audit that I didn't miss any host-triggered spots; changing the signature forces us to double-check that I correctly categorized all callers. Since command line options can change whether a guest reset request causes an actual reset vs. a shutdown, it's easy to also add the information to reset requests. This replacement improves the readability and understandability of code. For example, timer_mod(fdctrl->result_timer, qemu_clock_get_ns(QEMU_CLOCK_VIRTUAL) + (get_ticks_per_sec() / 50)); NANOSECONDS_PER_SECOND makes it obvious that qemu_clock_get_ns matches the unit of the expression on the right side of the plus. Commit 57cb38b included qapi/error.h into qemu/osdep.h to get the Error typedef. Since then, we've moved to include qemu/osdep.h everywhere. Its file comment explains: "To avoid getting into possible circular include dependencies, this file should not include any other QEMU headers, with the exceptions of config-host.h, compiler.h, os-posix.h and os-win32.h, all of which are doing a similar job to this file and are under similar constraints." qapi/error.h doesn't do a similar job, and it doesn't adhere to similar constraints: it includes qapi-types.h. That's in excess of 100KiB of crap most .c files don't actually need. Add the typedef to qemu/typedefs.h, and include that instead of qapi/error.h. Include qapi/error.h in .c files that need it and don't get it now. Include qapi-types.h in qom/object.h for uint16List. Update scripts/clean-includes accordingly. Update it further to match reality: replace config.h by config-target.h, add sysemu/os-posix.h, sysemu/os-win32.h. Update the list of includes in the qemu/osdep.h comment quoted above similarly. This reduces the number of objects depending on qapi/error.h from "all of them" to less than a third. Unfortunately, the number depending on qapi-types.h shrinks only a little.
