2012-08-06p54pci: convert driver to use asynchronous firmware loadingLarry Finger
Drivers that load firmware from their probe routine have problems with the latest versions of udev as they get timeouts while waiting for user space to start. The problem is fixed by using request_firmware_nowait() and delaying the start of mac80211 until the firmware is loaded. To prevent the possibility of the driver being unloaded while the firmware loading callback is still active, a completion queue entry is used. 2012-07-31mac80211: move TX station pointer and restructure TXThomas Huehn
Remove the control.sta pointer from ieee80211_tx_info to free up sufficient space in the TX skb control buffer for the upcoming Transmit Power Control (TPC). Instead, the pointer is now on the stack in a new control struct that is passed as a function parameter to the drivers' tx method. Adding casts of objects to the same type is unnecessary and confusing for a human reader. For example, this cast: int y; int *p = (int *)&y; I used the coccinelle script below to find and remove these unnecessary casts. I manually removed the conversions this script produces of casts with __force, __iomem and __user. @@ type T; T *p; @@ - (T *)p + p Neatened the mwifiex_deauthenticate_infra function which was doing odd things with array pointers and not using is_zero_ether_addr. 2012-05-18USB: Disable hub-initiated LPM for comms devices.Sarah Sharp
Hub-initiated LPM is not good for USB communications devices. Comms devices should be able to tell when their link can go into a lower power state, because they know when an incoming transmission is finished. Ideally, these devices would slam their links into a lower power state, using the device-initiated LPM, after finishing the last packet of their data transfer. If we enable the idle timeouts for the parent hubs to enable hub-initiated LPM, we will get a lot of useless LPM packets on the bus as the devices reject LPM transitions when they're in the middle of receiving data. Worse, some devices might blindly accept the hub-initiated LPM and power down their radios while they're in the middle of receiving a transmission. The Intel Windows folks are disabling hub-initiated LPM for all USB communications devices under a xHCI USB 3.0 host. In order to keep the Linux behavior as close as possible to Windows, we need to do the same in Linux. Set the disable_hub_initiated_lpm flag for for all USB communications drivers. I know there aren't currently any USB 3.0 devices that implement these class specifications, but we should be ready if they do. 2012-04-10mac80211: remove antenna_sel_tx TX info fieldJohannes Berg
This field is never set to anything non-zero in mac80211, so we should be able to remove it. Unfortunately though, the iwlwifi and iwlegacy drivers use it for their internal TX status processing (which shouldn't be using the rate control API to start with), so add a new field "status.antenna" for them, at least for now. To prevent the possibility of the driver being unloaded while the firmware loading callback is still active, a completion queue entry is used. Also, to simplify the firmware loading procedure, this patch removes the old, unofficial and confusing fallback firmware names. However, they are still supported! 2012-02-29mac80211: handle non-bufferable MMPDUs correctlyJohannes Berg
This renames the IEEE80211_TX_CTL_POLL_RESPONSE TX flag to IEEE80211_TX_CTL_NO_PS_BUFFER and also uses it for non-bufferable MMPDUs (all MMPDUs but deauth, disassoc and action frames.) Previously, mac80211 would let the MMPDU through but not set the flag so drivers supporting some hardware aids for avoiding the PS races would then reject the frame. module_param(bool) used to counter-intuitively take an int. In fddd5201 (mid-2009) we allowed bool or int/unsigned int using a messy trick. It's time to remove the int/unsigned int option. Add uAPSD support to mac80211. This is probably not possible with all devices, so advertising it with the cfg80211 flag will be left up to drivers that want it. Due to my previous patches it is now a fairly straight-forward extension. Drivers need to have accurate TX status reporting for the EOSP frame. For drivers that buffer themselves, the provided APIs allow releasing the right number of frames, but then drivers need to set EOSP and more-data themselves. Note: Not all firmwares include the multicast filter feature and the stack does not filter them either. 2011-04-08p54: Initialize extra_len in p54_tx_80211Jason Conti
This patch fixes a very serious off-by-one bug in the driver, which could leave the device in an unresponsive state. The problem was that the extra_len variable [used to reserve extra scratch buffer space for the firmware] was left uninitialized. Because p54_assign_address later needs the value to reserve additional space, the resulting frame could be to big for the small device's memory window and everything would immediately come to a grinding halt.
